Personal information of over 8,000 Department of Homeland Security employees was exposed through a vulnerability in a third-party HR system.
The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that personal information belonging to approximately 8,400 employees was exposed following a breach at a third-party human resources software vendor.
Exposed data includes names, government email addresses, office locations, and in some cases personal phone numbers. No classified information or financial data was included in the exposure, according to a DHS spokesperson.
The breach highlights ongoing risks from supply chain and third-party vendor security. The affected contractor has been identified and removed from the vendor roster while an investigation is underway.
